Red Clover Reader is an ed-tech startup that is solving the lack of cultural diversity in children’s literature by connecting parents and self-published and independent authors of children’s books on an online platform that facilitates the co-creation and dissemination of more culturally diverse and value-focused content.

Only 14% of US children’s books have Black, Latino, Asian or Native American main characters. However, 80% of the children’s literary world (authors, illustrators, editors, executives, marketers, and reviewers) are White. Also, reading literary fiction is proven to increase one’s empathy and ability to gauge emotions. What happens if children only get the chance to read the stories of White characters?

Red Clover Reader is solving the lack of cultural diversity in children’s literature by connecting parents and independent authors of children’s books on an online platform that enables the co-creation and dissemination of more culturally diverse and value-focused content. In the US alone, the self-published children’s book and merchandise industry is worth over $1 Billion/year. We make money by charging parents a monthly subscription fee to access eBooks and by charging authors a commission on sales of print copies (and book-related merchandise). We are beta testing currently. Our web application is live with several diverse children’s books already listed.
